Our Mission
Our mission is to support people with mental and physical challenges in a respectful, safe and productive environment that enables them to reach their highest level of individual independence, while collaborating with families and other service organizations to expand each individual’s opportunities to engage in community activities that would otherwise be out of their reach.



History
We, The Smart Place Adult and Children Services, are a community service entity providing day support to the mentally and physically challenged. Teresa Punzi, founder of The Smart Place, has been in business for approximately 4 years. Each year she has taken on the task of helping those who can not help themselves. She started with a mission of providing a place where the mentally and physically challenged can come and improve their life. The Smart Place is the fastest growing Center of its kind in the Atlanta Metro Region. She has been able to achieve this through being the best at what she does, caring for our consumers. She has sacrificed all that she is just to make a difference in the lives of the people she services.



The Curriculum of The Smart Place involves the following 12 Core Areas:
Early Learning Skills - Language and Communication - Self Care - Daily Living Skills - Recreational Leisure Activities - Health Training - Functional Academics - Life Skill Education - Social Skills Training - Sensory Integration Training - Behavioral Management and Intervention - Community-Living and Interacting Skills
The Smart Place has an evaluation tool that measures each consumer’s individual progress as he/she moves through the program goals. Evaluation measures are designed to be realistic and informative. Individual consumer programs are regularly reviewed by The Smart Place staff and necessary adjustments are made in a timely manner so that consumers are always experiencing optimum success.
The Smart Place has a highly skilled and competent staff that exceeds state standard requirements for service providers in this field. As a requisite of employment all of the full time staff must be certified nursing assistants with an instructional background. Additional hiring requirements include three or more years experience working with the disabled population. It is preferred that employees have additional certifications and licenses. The Smart Place promotes ongoing training for its staff in an effort to stay abreast of all of the current best practices in the industry.
The Smart Place offers excellent and affordable support services to the disabled consumer that would allow each individual to be able to maximize his/her developmental capabilities as well as identifying and expanding on skills so that each person can be become more active and participatory in his / her own community. The Smart Place has a variety of programs that are individually designed and implemented.
